St. Francis Medical Center is committed to serving the neediest members of the Los Angeles Community. It provides patient-centered, economical health services with a special concern for the sick, poor and their families. The medical center operates a 384-bed acute care hospital, six community-based health clinics, and the largest and busiest private emergency trauma center in Los Angeles County — treating 69,000 children and adults each year. Last year, more than 6,000 babies were born at SFMC’s Family Life Center, with 775 babies cared for in its state-of-the-art Neonatal Intensive Care Center.

As a Health Scholar, you may have the opportunity to explore Administrative opportunities in addition to clinical opportunities. For those interested in administration, you will complete at least one clinical rotation and then apply for an administrative department. The departments and projects vary based on the site’s needs.
