Leadership Scholar Overview

The Leadership Scholar program is exclusively offered at Adventist Health Bakersfield to train their nursing workforce to develop the experiences, competencies, and skills necessary for effective vision and leadership of the organization.

Over the course of six months, participants will gain leadership and critical thinking skills that will scale them to become future nursing leaders and health care professionals. Nurses who complete the Leadership Scholar Program will receive a certificate in Leadership and Management from Keck Graduate Institute.

About the Program

Participants in the program will:

  • Participate in a combination of synchronous and asynchronous didactic learning workshops focused on building leadership skills and competencies. Workshop topics include:

Value-Based Care and System Redesign

Health Care Financing & Budgeting

Mental Health and Workplace Wellness

Nursing Career Advancement

Leadership in Practice

Quality Improvement

Crucial Conversations in Practice

High Reliability Organizations

Health Care Operations

Project Management

 

  • Complete group activities and personal assessments to better understand personal leadership capabilities and recognize areas for personal development
  • Receive individualized coaching and mentorship throughout the program from leadership to empower seasoned nurses with knowledge and skills to function effectively as organizational leaders
  • Receive a certificate of completion in Leadership and Management from Keck Graduate Institute


The Leadership Scholar program is exclusively offered to Adventist Health Bakersfield (AHB) in Bakersfield, California. Only current nursing staff may apply at this time.
