For graduates and students of colleges and universities (age 18+) who are interested in or preparing for careers in health care during Winter or Spring Break
Scholars will receive a certificate in Patient Experience and Health Professions Studies.
Scholars must be accepted to, enrolled in or graduated from an accredited college or university, and be at least 16 years old.
The Winter & Spring Break Scholars program include hands-on clinical training, clinical observations, exposure to departments and guest workshops and panels.
Prior to the program start date you will complete a series of online training modules. Hands-on training will take place on the first day of the program.
During the clinical observations you will be paired with a Health Scholar (college student or graduate) who is assisting with patient comfort care under RN supervision. Although you will not be directly shadowing physicians or nurses in this program, you will regularly interact with physicians, nurses, other allied health professionals, patients and patient’s families. The observational experience will give you an inside look at how the entire patient care team works together to deliver care, and the impact of health care delivery on patients and their families.
After seeing the patient care team in action during the day, you will have the chance to ask them your questions about the health care field during evening panels and workshops.
Enjoy sunny Los Angeles or beautiful Seattle during planned fun events and activities at the beginning and end of the program.
Anyone who is exploring a career in health care should apply! Scholars typically include current college students, “gap year” students and those looking to return to a health care profession.
*These session dates are available to students ages 16 and over. For these sessions, students will participate in a simulation lab in lieu of clinical observation.
Tuition is $995. This covers your training, training materials, CPR certification, special events, workshops, activities and UCLA certificate.
Housing near each program site is available for an additional fee of $700 (LA) or $800 (Seattle). Check-in will be one night prior to the program start date and check-out will be one day after the program end date, for a total of six nights.
After completing a winter or spring break session, you will be invited to apply to one of our other programs, such as the Health Scholar Program or a summer program. You will receive a $100 tuition discount on your next program if you are accepted to, and enroll in, a future COPE Health Scholars program.
