FAQs - COPE Health Scholars

Intensive Pre-Med Scholar FAQs

I am having trouble submitting my application through the web portal, what do I do?

Please contact admissions@copehealthscholars.org and an admissions counselor from our team will reach out to you shortly.

I was not accepted. Can I reapply?

Yes, you may re-apply. In your new application, highlight new insights or learning you have had since your last application. Please don’t re-submit the exact same application.

What can I do to increase my chances of admission?

Take the application and interview process seriously. Spend time on your essays to demonstrate why you want to be in the program. Prepare for your interview and dress professionally. The Career Center at your college or university is a good resource for preparing for applications and interviews.

When do I need to show proof of immunizations?

Proof of immunization are due during your clearance appointment which is scheduled before the first day of training. You do not need to complete these items before submitting your application.

Can I transfer from one site to another site?

No. Scholars must complete the program at their assigned site as of first day of training.

Can I transfer from one program to another?

Scholars in good standing may transfer to a program with similar entrance requirements. For example, Summer Intensive Health Scholars may continue their enrollment in the 15-month Health Scholar program. Please reach out to an admissions counselor or your program manager for more details regarding your eligibility for concurrent enrollment.

How many departments will I experience? Do I choose the departments?

Intensive Pre-Med Scholars are assigned to 1 or 2 departments during their program. Scholars will fill out a department preference survey prior to beginning the program. While we try to accommodate preferences, we cannot guarantee department placement.

Why do some sites have more clinical areas than other sites? Why do some sites have only one or two clinical areas?

The number of clinical areas varies based on a few factors: the length of time the site has been open, the size of the site and the needs of the site. For new sites opened within the last two years, one to two clinical areas are typically opened every three months. For smaller sites, for example an acute care site with a relatively low number of beds, fewer areas are available because the site will have fewer clinical areas overall. The needs of the site also play a role –each of our sites provides a unique experience in a real health care setting. Different facilities serve different community health needs, and the department options will vary accordingly. We strive to provide a holistic view of health care at each site among departments that are appropriate Scholar learning environments.

Do you offer scholarships or financial aid?

If an applicant is unable to meet the financial requirements and timeline outlined in the Payment and Refund policy, the applicant will indicate so when they receive their conditional acceptance and sign their Payment Policy Agreement, due no later than five (5) business days after letter is received. A financial assistance application must be submitted with the Payment Policy Agreement if an applicant will require tuition assistance.

Applicants MUST apply for the program and be conditionally accepted before their financial assistance application will be considered. The maximum amount an applicant may receive for tuition assistance is $250.

Only applicants that apply by the Early Bird deadline (xxxxx) will be eligible to apply for tuition assistance, and final decisions will be made by (xxxxx). Applicants applying after (xxxxx) will have a payment plan option only.

Do you accept scholarships from outside organizations?
